Amirah at Six Days Old,  Minnesota Zoo, Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA, 2013

Joel Sartore has a mission: To photograph all the world’s animals before they become extinct. Over the past dozen years, he has captured the world’s most endangered animals in his signature portraits for a project he calls Photo Ark. Here, Sartore creates a portrait of Amirah, a Malayan tapir born six days earlier at the Minnesota Zoo. Amirah (her name means “princess” in Arabic) is one of less than 2500 Malayan tapirs in existence.
